Context
Between 2020 and 2021, news kept coming about Venezuelan migrants shipwrecked on the route from Güiria to Trinidad, often in overloaded boats and without life jackets.
The route
The crossing covers roughly 100 km of water through the Gulf of Paria and the Dragon's Mouth, from Güiria and Macuro to the coast of Trinidad.
Real data, imagined rescue
The contour lines are the real bathymetry of the Gulf of Paria, and the rings are the lifesavers most of those who crossed never had. Made in three variations, blue, white and red, as a quiet way of keeping these deaths from becoming routine.
